What is Youth Counselling?
The Docklands Outreach counselling service is provided for young people aged 11 to 25. It is an opportunity to talk through and explore problems and feelings which may be difficult to do with family and friends.

A counselling session is usually 50 minutes long and once a week.

Young people come to counselling to express feelings and thoughts they often keep to themselves. It could be about:

  • Not feeling confident about yourself
  • Using drugs or alcohol
  • Relationships
  • Stress
  • Self-harm
  • Anger management
  • Sexuality & gender
  • Bullying
  • Racism or other abuse
  • Being listened to
  • Being understood

Confidentiality - What does it mean?
Confidentiality means that whatever you say to our counsellor will stay in the counselling room. This means that no one outside of Docklands outreach even needs to know you are having counselling,

It also means that the counsellor will discuss with you if he/she feels confidentiality might need to be broken. This could happen if you or others were at risk of serious harm or you needed services which meant bringing in other Docklands Outreach workers.

It’s natural to feel anxious, but this first session will give you the chance to talk about what you might want from counselling and to see if it’s the right thing for you.

From 2004 to 2005 we engaged with 3600 young people within the London Borough of Tower hamlets.

Last year we acted as one to one advocates for 156 young people.

Did you know that Docklands Outreach can provide sex and relationship education?

Did you know that we have 12 members of staff who work directly with young people?
